Jumbo Glacier Municipality a Game Changer for BC Tourism
Victoria, November 20, 2012 – The BC Chamber of Commerce is very supportive of the BC Government for its decision today to approve the incorporation of Jumbo Glacier as a mountain resort municipality.
“This resort will be a game changer for BC tourism,” said John Winter, President and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce. “Now that the environmental assessment has been completed, and municipality incorporated, the project proponents finally have the green light to go ahead and put the funding in place.”
A municipal council has been appointed to sit through November 30, 2014, with an interim corporate officer also named to serve until the first council meeting of the new municipality. Jumbo’s first mayor and councillors are Greg Deck, Nancy Hugunin and Steve Ostrander.
The proposed year round ski resort is located at the foot of Jumbo Mountain and Jumbo Glacier, 55 kilometers west of Invermere. It will further strengthen British Columbia as world class destination and substantially expand tourism revenue in the Columbia Valley.
“It is good to see BC sending a clear signal that economically critical projects can ultimately be dealt with through an expeditious and balanced process, and I very much hope that this becomes the start of a trend,” continued Winter.
The BC Chamber is the largest and most broadly based business organization in the province. Representing over 120 Chambers of Commerce and 32,000 businesses of every size, sector and region of the province the BC Chamber of Commerce is “The Voice of Business in BC.”
