Site C Clean Energy Project Announced
Hudson’s Hope, April 19, 2010 – Chambers of Commerce from across the province today welcomed the B.C. Government announcement that it will be implementing the Site C Clean Energy Project. Site C will be the third hydro-electric dam on the Peace River and, once built, is expected to operate for 100 years.
“British Columbia has a legacy of producing renewable hydroelectric power”, said John Winter, President and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce. “This project will continue the green legacy of the WAC Bennett Dam, and ensure that there is clean power in British Columbia for generations to come.”
The Site C dam will power approximately 410,000 homes per year, following B.C. Hydro’s forecast that electricity consumption will grow in the province by 20% to 40% over the next twenty years.
“This project will contribute directly to BC’s electric self sufficiency”, continued Winter. “With large increases expected in the province’s electrical consumption in the foreseeable future, Site C will be crucial to ensuring that British Columbians consume what they produce.”
