Program Summary
Canada is in a retirement boom. No one knows the ramifications of that more than our members. Business leaders are struggling with a shortage of workers as more and more talent heads out the door to retirement – sometimes very early retirement.
At the same time today people turn 50 and aim for 100. In their third quarter they bring an emotional maturity and a strong work ethic to the workplace. More and more employers are coming to realize that lifelong - full time employees are a thing of the past. In fact a recent survey in Manitoba showed that 60% of business in small communities in that province are preparing for succession planning that will need to include part-time employees.
ThirdQuarter is an opportunity for both employers and employees to connect.
Third Quarter will initially roll out in rural and small communities across B.C.in the fall of 2010. The pilot will first be launched in 2 B.C. communities, and in up to 16 small and rural communities across the country over the next two years. In each of the pilot locations, community coordinators will be hired to help individuals and firms use the website and connect.
What makes Third Quarter different is that it does not use traditional resumes to find matches between employers and employees. A typical resume does not tell the full story of the hidden talents of ThirdQuarters. But Third Quarter will bring those essential and valued skills to the surface. It will include a series of on-line skill surveys to help that worker identify his or her essential skills.
For the Canadian economy to grow and for small towns to prosper we need ThirdQuarters to remain active.
