- Site C Energy Project one step closer – The BC government says the construction of the third
hydroelectric generating station on the Peace River – Site C – will create 35,000 jobs and meet BC’s future electricity needs, expected to increase 20 to 40% in the next 20 years. Site C will now advance to the regulatory review phase, which will include an independent environmental assessment. Authority will offer trades training for heavy equipment operator, building maintenance and a unique Aboriginal women in trades program. Read more - LiveSmart BC: Efficiency Incentive program extended - The Province will extend provincial incentives for the LiveSmart BC for participants entering the program as of April 1, 2010. The program provides financial support to households for energy assessments and energy efficiency building retrofits. Read more
- BC nets $114 million from Ottawa for immigration services – The new Canada-British Columbia
Immigration agreement provides funding for the BC government to support immigration services,
including a streamlining of the temporary foreign worker program in BC. Read more - Act updated to create new College of Veterinarians – Bill 10 proposes to rename the British Columbia Veterinary Medical Association as the College of Veterinarians of B.C. The legislation will also refocus the organization by providing it with regulatory powers similar to those of other health-care colleges. Read more
- Patient-focused funding model announced – BC hospitals will receive financial incentives for delivering acute-care services for a competitive, set price. Over the next two years, the Province will invest an additional $250 million to implement province-wide patient-focused funding.
