Maple Ridge‐Pitt Meadows Chamber of Commerce Receives Honours at Provincial Chamber Meeting
Prince Rupert, May 25, 2009 – The Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Chamber of Commerce was the recipient of top honours at the BC Chamber of Commerce 57th Annual General Meeting and Conference on Saturday in Prince Rupert. Randy Cooke, President of the Chamber, Jeremy Bekar, Vice President, and Dean Barbour, Executive Director, were on hand to accept the 2009 Chamber of the Year Award, presented by Al McNair, Past Chair and Governor of the BC Chamber of Commerce.
“This year’s Chamber of the Year Award goes to a Chamber which has, in the past year, reinvented itself and tackled its issues head on,” said McNair, as he presented the award. “This Chamber created an aggressive plan for 2008 and set out to achieve it. (…) Chamber membership increased by 30%. Events that had been sparsely attended in 2007 sold out in 2008. And the Chamber’s new approach to managing its revenue streams and streamlined processes resulted in the highest profits the Chamber has generated to date.”
The Chamber of the Year Award is presented to a member Chamber of the British Columbia Chamber of Commerce in recognition of outstanding service to their business community and their community at large. The recipients of this award are Chambers of Commerce that go above and beyond to create an organization that is a credit to their communities and to the Chamber Network in British Columbia.
“It is heartening to hear these great success stories each year with the presentation of the Chamber of the Year award,” says John Winter, President & CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce. “The Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Chamber is no exception. Their tireless efforts will inspire Chambers across the province in their activities this year.”
